Beginning of the Year Mass at St George’s Cathedral

On Thursday 26th September, Bonus Pastor Catholic College joined our fellow schools from the St. Benedict Catholic Academy Trust; St. Anthony's Catholic Primary, Our Lady and St. Philip Neri Primary, and St. Michael's Catholic College as well as 130 schools across the Southwark diocese at St George’s Cathedral for the Beginning of Year Mass.

The Mass, led by Archbishop John Wilson, was a chance for headteachers, chairs of governors, and Education Commission staff to renew their commitment to Catholic education and to carrying out Christ’s mission in their roles. The Gospel reading from Luke 9:7-9 reminded us to stay curious and open to God’s work in the world, much like Herod seeking to understand who Jesus was.

Jonathan Ronan, CEO of the St. Benedict Catholic Academy Trust, received the Year of Jubilee 2025 candle, symbolising the theme "Pilgrims of Hope." This candle will travel between the Trust’s schools, representing our shared faith, unity, and hope as we journey together into the Jubilee year.
